Verkada Inc. Was founded in 2016 by three Standford University graduates Hans Robertson and James Ren and Filip Kaliszan in Menlo Park, California. Hans Robertson who was a co-founderand previous COO of Meraki, presently Cisco Meraki joined the three Stanford graduates to start this company.
In September 2017, Verkada exited its beta development stage and offered its first security product with two camera models.
1n 2019, it was listed in the Forbes’ list titled Next Billion Dollar startup and listed among Forbes’ 50 promising AI companies of 2019.
In 2020, in Series C funding Verkada raised 80 million dollars from Felicis Ventures taking the company’s valuation to 1. 6 billion dollars. In the same year, the company launched its first access control device and integrating the platform with locks and security camera.
During the Covid-19 crisis the company offered a free program that offered free surveillance kits to healthcare institutions and businesses to monitor high-risk locations. This free surveillance kit also had an added feature that let its users know when crowds were forming in an area and locate high traffic areas for clearance.
In September 2020, Verkada launched a series of integrated environmental sensors and monitoring facilitated environmental sensors.

At first I loved the product and pricing but after working with sales and support, they go above and beyond to address any questions or concerns to make sure we get the best value out of our products. All around, Verkada operates in an exemplary way of how a company should operate to keep customers happy. What do you dislike about Verkada? Licensing (why can’t all nice things be free). I know it costs money to utilize AI analytics and cloud storage so I understand the need for licensing and pricing is very fair but I can’t think of anything else I dislike. Our Board of Directors required us to install an alarm system as we were near completion of construction. We needed a solution with a light footprint that we could get installed fast. Verkada met both of these demands. |
