- The company might also consider Vietnam to be another manufacturing location.
Alphabet Inc, the company that owns Google, is reportedly planning to shift its manufacturing base of google Pixel smartphones to India. Reports indicate that this decision comes from CEO Sundar Pichai. He has thought about this ever since China imposed new restrictions and lockdowns amidst the new Covid outbreak.
Currently, new resorts have surfaced, which indicates that various bids have been solicited from Indian manufacturers by Google to produce anywhere between 500,000 to 1 million new Pixel smartphones. These figures are estimated to be equivalent to 10% to 20% of the total annual production of Google Pixel smartphones.
CEO Sundar Pichai wanted to start production in early 2022 but was not able to due to decision-making red tape. However, even if this decision has been approved by Alphabet, the primary components and semiconductors will still be imported from China and assembled in Indian manufacturing units. Vietnam can also become a possible new manufacturing unit in the near future, though this decision is unconfirmed.
